Roof Installation - Important Things You Need to Know

A new roof installation is one of the most important home improvements you can do. Depending on your roof’s condition, age, and other factors, you may have to replace your roof soon. If this is the case, you will want to take the time to prepare so that the process goes smoothly and that you have no surprises along the way.

So, you have decided to upgrade the roof of your home. Congratulations! To prepare for your roof installation project, know that there may be times when you will have to move a car out of the way or make sure that someone is home. A few days prior to the start of your project, a dumpster will be delivered and placed in your driveway. Within this same timeframe the asphalt shingles will be dropped off. Your roofing contractor will let you know when these deliveries are scheduled so that you can be prepared for their arrival.

Day of installation

If you are replacing the roof on your home, you are likely anxious to have the old one torn off and the new one put in its place. While replacing your roof can be exciting, there are certain details that you will need to know so that no damage is done while your new roof is being installed.

Your roof installation can go smoothly with advance planning. Talk to your roofing contractor about any pets, plants, or flowers that will be in the way during installation. If they are working from ladders, they will more than likely be in close proximity. We recommend covering any flowers or shrubbery within the immediate area that may be impacted during roof installation.

Are there fences or gates surrounding your home? During installation the roofers will need to be able to move freely throughout the front and back yards. Ensure that any gates they will need to get through are unlocked in advance.

Upon Completion

You are at the home stretch! Upon completion if you are home the contractor will do a final walk-through with you. Use this opportunity to address any questions or concerns that you may have. At this point in the process, it is important to understand if you or your roofing contractor will be responsible for registering the product warranty. Within a couple of days, the dumpster will be picked up by the dumpster company, leaving your driveway and yard nice and clean.

Your roof is one of the most vulnerable areas of your home as it is constantly exposed to the elements. Over time, a roof begins to degrade due to things like sun damage and other external factors affecting its longevity. This is one of the reasons why it is important to hire a professional roofer or contractor when it comes time for you to begin shopping around for a new roof.
