Choosing a Roofing Professional for Your Next Project

It has officially happened. You are in need of a new roof. Perhaps there was damage caused by a recent storm or you knew that you would need to replace your roof in the not-so-distant future. Either way, there are important steps that need to be taken now as you go about choosing a roofing professional.

Choosing a roofer should not be an intimidating experience. In fact, the roofer you choose should put your mind at ease and make this as smooth of a process as possible, all while providing education on the various options available to you. Which is why we have prepared information that we think will be most beneficial to you as you go through your selection process.

Ask questions

Do not be afraid to ask questions! You are going to be employing this professional, and although price is probably going to play a factor, there are other important criteria that should go into your selection process as well. Think of your initial introduction to this person as an interview. Was the contractor knowledgeable? Friendly? Did they put your mind at ease?

For so many of us, roofing is not something that we think about until we need it. You may not even understand just yet what you need or what questions you should ask a professional. Aside from the typical questions you might ask regarding the details of the project, here are some excellent examples of what you could ask your roofer as part of your selection process:

  • What is the full name and address of the company?

  • Does the company carry insurance?

  • Is the company a licensed or credentialed contractor?

  • How long has the company been in business?

  • Will the company provide referrals or references from previous jobs?

  • What is the manufacturer’s extended warranty?

  • What is the company’s track record for solving customer complaints?

The details

No matter the size of the company you are going to be working with, make certain that there is a contract in place. Does it cover all the items as discussed? Is there a section within the scope of work or some verbiage that you are confused about? Contact your roofer before work begins to resolve any concerns you may have. By addressing any questions or concerns upfront about the contract, you can avoid misunderstandings later down the road.

Also, do not hesitate to ask for references. This is just another step in your interview process. And it gives you an opportunity to ensure that the roofer’s business checks out. It should not be a hardship on the contractor’s end to supply you with some references, along with photos of recently completed work. Many contractors will even provide you with nearby addresses where you can drive-by homes to see their work for yourself. A quick Google search of the company can also provide you with helpful insight if customers have left reviews on BBB, Google, Yelp, social media websites, and other platforms.

For example, at NH Grand Roofs, our professionals are CertainTeed Credentialed Contractors. What does that mean for you? It means that we can offer you an extended warranty on your roof system, where CertainTeed will cover materials, labor, tear off, and disposal. Giving you peace of mind with your purchase.

Our professionals would be happy to meet with you to further discuss and assess your roofing needs. Please call (603) 552-7152 or email info@nhgrandroofs.com to set up an appointment.
